"Escape the Coming Night" Book Review

This book, Escape the Coming Night, was written by Dr. Jeremiah, pastor of Turning Point Ministries. Although it was originally published Feb. 6, 2018, Jeremiah has been advertising it enthusiastically recently. I believe it is because the factual data in the prophetic book is even more relevant today.

Frankly, this comprehensive study is bringing the controversial and highly questionable Biblical book, Revelation, into a clear perspective regarding the current situations we are facing in the modern age. 

Jeremiah wrote the book not only from insights into the book of Revelation but also from other prophetic books in the Bible, such as Isaiah, Daniel, Ezekiel, Micah, Matthew, and more. Each statement referring to “things to come” has at least one or more Biblical references provided. (John 16:13)

The book’s first several chapters begin with details from our current world, or at least the world of 2018 (though this copy is an updated version), and show how the prophecy in Revelation is reflected in today’s economic and technological society. Perhaps a few of the facts might be a little different from those in 2026, but it is still practical. 

Another set of chapters discusses the seven churches and the reasons for their success and imminent failure. A chapter focuses on the modern-day church's lackadaisical attitude and how the LORD will “spit it out of His mouth.” All seven churches are described in succession, including their locations, congregations, and final failure to successfully spread the Gospel. (Revelation chapters 2 and 3)

The third section is very descriptive in how Satan’s control over the world and humankind has utterly destroyed the foundation of many religious organizations. It brings to life the reasoning for the four horses of the Apocalypse, the madness and inhumanity of mankind, the satanic beast, etc. 

It is, in fact, describing the world after the Rapture of the Christians and the dead in Christ who rise, and the next seven years of horrific Tribulation and worldwide chaos. This is the era that is feared by those who worry for their unSaved loved ones, because deception, torture, and death will prevail to force individuals to accept the “mark of the beast” in order for common livelihood essentials. (1 Thessalonians 4:16–17)

The Holy Spirit will allow Satan’s rule to be foremost. (Although some believe the Holy Spirit will leave the earth, not all believe He will leave completely.)

However, the book of Revelation does not leave all lost during this dreadful time. There will be those who finally learned to follow Christ during these adverse times. They will fight against the governmental and spiritual evils and work to spread the Gospel to the remaining people on the earth. Hopefully, according to prophecy, there will be a revival, even against the monumental forces against them. (Revelation 7:14)

The final set of chapters describes the end of the Tribulation, the Second Coming of Jesus Christ, the Battle of Armageddon, the judgment seat of sinners, the books with the final Book of Life, and the time in Heaven for those who followed Christ. (Matthew 24:21, Revelation 19:11–16, Revelation 16:14-16)

There will reign a thousand years of Jesus over the world with the peace and prosperity of mankind. Satan will be chained and imprisoned during this time. This is a peace that all of the people of the world have wished and yearned for centuries, but had all utterly failed with wars, greed, hatred, murder, etc. Nevertheless, during these thousand years, it will achieve the peace that can only be ruled by the Son of Man, the Son of God, the LORD Jesus Christ. (Daniel 7:13–14, John 20:31, Philippians 2:10-11)

Once Satan is released after the reign of peace, he will unleash evil again for a short time, but not for long. Soon Satan will be thrown, with his followers, into the Lake of Fire for eternity. (Revelation 20:3)

Finally, Jeremiah’s book ends with a description of the New Jerusalem, the New World, Christians' eternal life and duties, and the never-ending “light” that does not need a sun or moon to shine. We will only need Jesus as the light to end all darkness.

It ends with eternal warmth and wonder at the glorious universe around us. 

Jeremiah’s description, along with Biblical references, portrays something that we, locked into our human bodies and stuck on earth, can only dream about for our future, those who follow Christ. The pearl gates, the beautiful gems representing the twelve apostles, the lucent golden streets. But most of all, the warmth, comfort, tremendous joy of being near our Savior, our Comforter, our God.

The book’s overall appeal, though, is its ability to explain the Bible’s prophecies in straightforward terms and to condense all the prophetic books into one small, modern-day published document with complete clarity. 

Dr. David Jeremiah has been a master in translating the Bible’s prophecies and necessities for living in Christ. His sermons, readily available on YouTube for free, are very simple and easy to understand. I encourage everyone to watch and listen. He also has many other media outlets for free.
